Pseudoephedrine Laws and Pharmacists

Pseudoephedrine is a precursor chemical used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. Due to this use of pseudoephedrine there has been an increase in laws and regulations on its sale. In 2006 the federal government enacted the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act, which regulates the amounts and methods of selling pseudoephedrine. Many states have also passed their own state laws and administrative regulations covering the sale of pseudoephedrine. Many of these laws and administrative regulations pertain directly to pharmacists. With increase law enforcement scrutiny on the sales of pseudoephedrine this will involve pharmacists. Pharmacists need to be aware of the law and regulations which apply to them to avoid legal, civil and ethical dilemmas. The course will cover the parts of the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act and state laws and regulations that apply to retail pharmacists.
